Advent calender day thirteen

We are over half way through advent now and if you've enjoyed the patterns so far your gonna love what I've got coming up in the next few days :)

Today I've gone for an amigurumi classic and I've designed a little wintery owl. Hope you enjoy making him xxx



Advent calendar 13

Christmas owl by Liz Ward

You will need;
Cotton DK weight yarn in grey and red
3.5mm crochet hook
9mm black safety eyes
Wool needle
Fabric glue
White felt
Black embroidery thread
Embroidery needle

Stitches and Abbreviations
Sl st –slip stitch
dc – double crochet
htr – half treble crochet
tr – treble crochet
dtr – double treble crochet

Big owls
Make one in blue yarn and one in pink yarn

Make a magic ring and work 6dc into the ring. Six sts
Rnd 1: 2dc into each st to the end. 12sts
Rnd 2: (dc in the first st, 2dc in the next st) repeat to end. 18sts
Rnd 3: (dc in the first two sts, 2dc in the next st) repeat to end. 24sts
Rnd 4: (dc in the first three sts, 2dc in the next st) repeat to end. 30sts
Rnd 5-7: dc in each st to the end. 30sts
Rnd 8: (dc2tog, dc in next eight sts) repeat to end. 27sts
Rnd 9-11: dc in each st to the end. 27sts
Rnd 12: (dc2tog, dc in next seven  sts) repeat to end. 24sts
Rnd 13-15: dc in each st to the end. 24sts
Rnd 16: (dc2tog, dc in next six sts) repeat to end. 24sts
Rnd 17-19: dc in each st to the end. 24sts
Rnd 20: (dc2tog, dc in next five sts) repeat to end. 18sts
Rnd 21: dc in the first three sts, tr in the next st, dtr in the next st, tr in the next st, dc in the next 6 sts, tr in the next st, dtr in the next st, tr in the next st, dc in the last three sts. 18sts

Cut yarn leaving a long tail and pull through loop to secure

press the opening at the top of the owl in flat making sure you have the double treble crochets at each end to form the ears

Cut rounds out of white felt and use black thread to embroider the lines as shown in the photo leaving a gap in the middle to cut a hole to insert the toy eyes.
Use the photo as a guide to attach the eyes in place.

Stuff the owl 

Sew closed the opening at the top of the head. Weave in and cut off any loose ends.

Wings
Make two for each big owl in the matching yarn colour.

Ch 3, in the last ch from the hook work 4 tc, 1hdtc and 1 dtc.

Cut yarn leaving a long tail and pull through loop to secure

Use the photo as a guide to and sew onto the owl. Weave in and cut off any loose ends.

Scarf

Scarf
Make one in red yarn

Ch 4
Row 1: dc in 2nd ch from the hook, dc in the next two ch sts. 3sts
Row 2-46: ch 1, turn, dc in each st to the end. 3sts

Fasten off.

Knot lengths of matching yarn to the end of the scarf to form the tassels.
Tie in place around the owl’s neck.
